"Full Spectrum" Encompasses "STARS" Technology

We've moved to our new location on Allendale Drive.
Optechnology,
Inc. is working on a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR)
contract awarded by the U.S. Army Aviation
and Missile Command to study Strategically Tuned Absolutely
Resilient Structures (STARS). Phase II work
has already begun.
During Phase I of the project we addressed the fundamental relationships between the structure of cementitious composites and their mechanical properties as influenced by composition, processing, environment, stress state, and loading rate. Consideration was given to damage initiation and progression, failure mechanisms, and life prediction... factors essential for the development of new heterogeneous structural systems.
As part of our Phase I Option, we performed an advanced technology demonstration by fabricating and testing a large-scale prototype. We worked with our subcontractor [The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH)] and their American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter to build a dynamically tuned concrete canoe called “Full Spectrum” (see photo below). Their “swimming boat” enabled Team UAH to win the 2006 Southeast Regional Concrete Canoe Competition held in Gainesville, Florida on March 30th through April 1st by a substantial margin.

Team UAH poses with “Full
Spectrum.”
The win earned Team UAH the privilege of competing against other regional winners at the 2006 National Concrete Canoe Competition (NCCC) held in Stillwater, Oklahoma on June 15th-17th where the team finished seventh overall.
Our Radial Metrology Division focuses on the design, development, and sales of panoramic imaging systems.
Our Solid Mechanics Division offers consulting services in the areas of engineering mechanics, applied optics, structural analysis, and experimental stress analysis.
Our Cementitious Composites Division specializes in the design, development, and production of highly compliant, lightweight, graphite reinforced, cementitious composite systems.
